Alligator Found Guarding Marijuana Stash

Alameda County sheriff’s deputies conducted an inspection on a home of a man named Assif Mayar and were startled to find a 15 year old, 5-foot long alligator named “Mr. Teeth” guarding his property.

“We come across guard dogs like pit bulls quite frequently, but a guard alligator is very very unusual,” said sheriff’s Sgt. J.D. Nelson. It turns out the unconventional guard animal was a deterrent against thieves who wanted a hold of 34 pounds of processed dried marijuana Assif Mayar had hidden in his bedroom.

Mayar was arrested on suspicion of possessing marijuana for sale and was taken to Santa Rita Jail in Dublin, where he is being held in lieu of $160,000 bail. Mr. Teeth, who was found ill, was brought to the local zoo for treatment before he will be located.
