North Belfast Pipe Bomb Attack

A 28-year-old man was accused of conspiring with another person to murder police officers.

Stuart Downes, who lives in Shrewsbury, faces charges including researching about the components of pipe bombs over the internet. The alleged offences relate to an attack on two police officers who escaped but injured when two pipe bombs were thrown at them in North Belfast on May. However, Downes denies all the charges.

The police officers were responding to a call in the Ballysillan area when they were attacked.
