Police Officer Among those Charged During July 4 Weekend Holiday for DUI

A veteran Philadelphia police officer was among the 66 drivers who were charged with DUIs during a massive crackdown over the extended July 4 weekend holiday.

53-year-old Eugene Daniel was not on duty when he was involved in a crash shortly after 9 p.m., Friday, according to police. His car was traveling west on Girard Avenue when it hit another vehicle heading north on 33rd Street police said.

After the crash, Daniel was charged with DUI, criminal mischief, and simple assault. A police spokeswoman said Daniel, who is assigned to the 16th District, will be pulled from the street duty.
