Rhode Island Lawyers Lose Their Licenses

What happens when the lawyers are the ones who get convicted of crimes? For starters, they lose their licenses to practice law. That’s what happened to two lawyers from Rhode Island who were convicted of felony charges.

Gerard H. Donley was accused of bribing and other charges while Mary E. O’Rourke was accused of being a part of a scheme that cheated the Navy out of millions of dollars. The courts decided that they should no longer practice law.

According to Tracy Breton for the providence Journal, “Chief U.S. District Court Judge Mary M. Lisi entered an order on July 18 disbarring O’Rourke after receiving an affidavit from the defendant stating she consented to disbarment.”
